Polymers are used in many different ways. Additional particles in the polymer change its properties so drastically that the field of application of polymers sometimes extends to that of metals:
- soft and hard magnetic properties
- electromagnetic shielding
- Increased electrical conductivity
- Increased thermal conductivity
- improved mechanical properties
If magnetite is incorporated into a polymer, for example, it enables soft magnetic properties and increases electrical conductivity. Thermal conductivity is also increased, enabling rapid cooling during the production process. The production of such filled polymers follows a typical, possibly adapted, polymer processing chain, such as extrusion and injection molding.
